Family Holidays at Three Lochs

Aqua Park, pool, ponies, paddleboards, play barn — and a self-catering holiday home to come back to when everyone’s worn out.

Family holidays are easier when you don’t have to drive anywhere. At Three Lochs, the pool’s a five-minute walk from your self-catering holiday home. The kids’ play barn is two. The horse paddock and the fishing pegs are a wander down the hill. You can fill a day in here, or do nothing — and either makes a perfect holiday.

The park’s spread across 1,200 acres, threaded with woodland paths and lochs you can reach in trainers. There’s enough to do for the under-fives, plenty for the in-betweens, and — yes — actual things for teenagers (clay pigeon shooting tends to do the trick). Wi-Fi too, before you ask.

Three Lochs has a built-in rainy-day plan, and it’s a good one. Pool in the morning. Indoor play barn before lunch. Board games and a slow lunch at the bar. Crafts back at your self-catering holiday home. The kind of afternoon where nobody asks “what are we doing now?” — because there’s an answer five minutes from the door.

And When You Want a Day Out

The Galloway Forest Park is right behind us — proper Scottish countryside with biking trails, ranger-led activities and one of the best dark-sky observatories in Europe. The Solway coast’s a half-hour drive: rock-pooling, kite-flying, fishing villages with ice cream. And the village book town of Wigtown is a perfect rainy-afternoon detour for anyone in your party who’d rather be reading.

Our beautiful idyllic paradise. It is great for me as I enjoy the solitude, peace and quiet — but also suits my hubby as he likes to be around people, so he goes visiting the other owners, who are all lovely. Perfect for both of us. Plenty for all ages to do, great staff who are always available to help when you need it. Don't think anyone would find a better place to stay.

Are the self-catering holiday homes suitable for young children?

Yes — every lself-catering holiday homes has a stair gate available on request, cots and high chairs to borrow, and shower room. The decking has a step, and the loch is close — so toddlers will need an eye keeping on them.

Can our kids go on the Aqua Park?

If they're confident in water and fall in the right age range, yes — the Aqua Park is the most-talked-about thing on the park. An adult needs to be on the inflatable with younger kids; older kids and teenagers go solo. Wetsuits and buoyancy aids are included with the £20-per-hour ticket. Is the pool open all year?

No, our heated indoor pool is open between March – November. You must book your swim via reception on the day you wish to use the pool.

Do you cater for special dietary needs in the bar?

Yes — gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian options are on the menu and we'll happily flex around allergies. Tell us when you book if you'd like us to plan something specific.

How safe is the park for kids to roam?

Traffic on park is kept to a slow crawl, and most of the activity areas (pool, play barn, lochside) are within sight or shouting distance of the lodges. School-age kids can usually wander between the pool and the lodge happily.

Are buggies and prams OK on the trails?

Most main paths around the park are buggy-friendly. Going further into the woodland it gets rougher — we'd recommend a sling or a robust off-road buggy beyond the gates.
